For more than six decades, Luther Manor has been dedicated to providing exceptional senior living, and we’re not stopping anytime soon. Instead, we remain steadfast in our commitment to celebrating the joy of living every day by embarking on a milestone metamorphosis.
Set for completion by year-end, our $9 million Project Revitalization will breathe new life into every corner of our scenic, parklike campus. The two-year initiative includes replacing our former main Terrace entrance, clearing space for a striking decorative concrete upgrade and installing a steel structure for a brand-new covered entrance.
Our Courtyards Cafe and resident lounge are getting a makeover, while a new entrance at 92nd Street will welcome future residents and families with open arms. A state-of-the-art therapy gym is shaping up just north of our Welcome Center. In addition, we installed an automatic door opening mechanism to the gym so residents using wheelchairs or walkers can easily access the space, promoting their safety and independence.
Renovations to the dining and activity areas are underway in the Health Care Center, along with the creation of a tranquil outdoor space to provide residents with a serene retreat to enjoy nature and socialize. The garden project came to life thanks to a Community Development Block Grant from the City of Wauwatosa.
With new sidewalks and patios, residents can now enjoy the surroundings more safely and comfortably. An elegant arbor provides shade, while fresh plantings enhance its beauty. We renamed the area Magnolia Garden after the mature magnolia tree gracing the space.
Another Project Revitalization highlight happened last summer when Luther Manor ushered in a new era of memory care with the opening of The Gardens. Designed to provide person-centered care for residents with memory impairment, Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, The Gardens offers a welcoming and enriching home environment. Residents can discover solace and serenity in nature with the addition of The Sanctuary, an outdoor therapeutic garden.
Luther Manor is on schedule for a year-end completion of Project Revitalization, and our excitement keeps building as we make our senior living community even more welcoming to future residents and families.
Rejoicing Seniors for 63 Years and Counting!
Our Life Plan community takes a holistic, mind-body-spirit approach to create a supportive and engaging lifestyle filled with helpful services, enjoyable programs and amenities, and a sense of security. We’re a community of some 400 team members and 300 volunteers who help ensure our nearly 400 residents and their families thrive.
Take 105-year-old Marge Jothen, for example. The centenarian isn’t just a resident, she’s an integral part of Luther Manor’s history. From witnessing our community’s groundbreaking ceremony in 1960, to becoming a resident herself in 1995, Marge has seen Luther Manor evolve and thrive over the years while living vibrantly herself.
A former Army nurse with a 25-year career at Visiting Nurses, she found solace and companionship at Luther Manor when she moved in. Marge went on to author two genealogy books, lend her soprano voice to the Bel Canto Chorus and share her musical talents by playing the piano at church services.
But Marge’s community contributions didn’t end there. She also started a 30-member chorus, expressed gratitude to Luther Manor Foundation donors through friendly phone chats and provided comfort as an end-of-life companion, singing and reciting Bible verses to those on their final journey.
Marge’s story isn’t just one of longevity — it’s also a story of unwavering spirit and community involvement. She’s a cherished part of Luther Manor’s legacy and a testament to our mission to share God’s love by enriching the lives of older adults.
